Apparently finally it has finished the worldwide race to turn ordinary skin cells into embryonic stem cells, than is a new beginning of the cell biology.
The researchers used a new technique for convert adult cells to embryonic cells with the help of harmless genetically modified viruses to smuggle genes. This implicates that the new cell could be any kind of cell and to be part of any organ of the body.
At the moment just will be for to trat some diseases, but the main use would be for to grow replacement organs and tissues, discarding the use of clone´s technique, impacting over all American people where Bush administration has set stringent controls on stem cell research and who avoid techniques that destroy life.
Dr. Shinya Yamanaka was the first who demonstrated the technique using mouse cells and then he did the experiment with humans cells (from an old woman and an old man). Another important professor called Jamie Thompson converted immature skin cells too (from a human foetus amd the foreskin of a newborn boy).
The discovery will definitely change the world of the cell biology.
The work was published yesterday in the journal science.
